I’ve been writing reviews for 8 years now for various metal webzines and magazines and I thought that I have heard of just every Danish, Swedish and Polish band – but gladly enough I was wrong. Hesperus Dimension is a Polish trio playing a bit unusual mix of speed, industrial, black and death metal accompanied by some dark and atmospheric lyrics, written and sung in English. It seems like the lyrics are very sincere even though sometimes it tends to deal with more or less cliché themes.
If you ask the band, they’ll just call their music ‘cold, merciless & unforgiving post-black metal’ but I must say that I don’t agree with this description as I can not hear that many black metal elements. Nevertheless, this 25 minutes mini-album is an extremely powerful attack on all your senses.
When it comes to the vocals, they came in different shapes and dimensions, from growling and howling to screaming and melodic ones… Guitar sound is programmed as far as I’m familiar with this sound, programmed in a very hyper-speedy tempo. There is some saxophone leads included here too and it fits ironically enough very well to the crazy and enigmatic choruses full of cries, laughs, whistles etc. To times one can even hear some jazzy sound clips, but fortunately enough there aren’t many of those.
There’s actually something magnetic about The Cyclothymic Panopticon and I’m looking very much forward to hear their first full-length material. This current release is meanwhile bound to please fans of DHG, Thorns, Aborym and similar black/death/industrial acts.
