Hesperus Dimension - Gothtronic webzine

When analyzing mankind's creativity, there are those territories where, even though common conventions have met an inglorious demise, the palpitating chaos was unable to wrestle itself free from the iron grip of the arranging mind. Hesperus Dimension, an avant-garde industrial post black metal troupe hailing from Poland, is one of those calibrators. The chaps manifested themselves for the first time in 2005 by means of the mini-cd "Mental Electricity", three years later followed by the presentation of this new EP to a confused and failure-addicted world, courtesy of Sérpéné Héli Music. The abstract and electronically infused sonic constructions remind me of Dødheimsgard, Aborym, Zyklon and Diabolicum, but their whimsical oddity places them far beyond the dominion of Lucifer. Given the eccentric principles applied in the creation of this music, listening to this may proof nerve-racking for some; personally I find this to be stimulating in the right way. Also be aware that things are not as perplexing as I maybe make them seem, since the tracks are still build around recognizable structures.

Opener "The Axis Of Diagram" is a solid first offering, the neurotic saxophone in this track brings into mind the brilliant insanity of Pan.Thy.Monium and Pain Killer. The Aborym-esque descent into inferno without any intermediate stations of "Through Drowsy Daydreams (Where Is That Man That I Heard Of)" leaves you no choice but to stoically accept your fate and just enjoy the unnaturally deformed scenery. After the robotic pirouette of "23 Hands" and the dark ambient outro "Immortal Portal Mortal", the integralizing exercition still hasn't come to its conclusion. The last track on this cd is a power electronics remix by Adon of the first track, the boundary lines between modern black metal and scraping industrial noise are transgressed here without so much as an afterthought. Thus, the circle is closed. The next step forward has been planned for 2009, Hesperus Dimension intends to have their first album completed and ready by then. Until that time we'll have to content ourselves with "The Cyclothymic Panopticon", a rare gem to cherish indeed.

Ten aanzien van de menselijke creativiteit zijn er van die gebieden waar reguliere conventies roemloos ten onder zijn gegaan zonder dat dit betekent dat de pulserende chaos zich heeft weten te ontworstelen aan de ijzeren greep van de ordende geest. Een van die herijkers is Hesperus Dimension, een avant-garde industrial post-black metal troupe uit Polen. Nadat de heren in 2005 voor het eerst van zich lieten horen door middel van de mini-cd "Mental Electricity", presenteert Sérpéné Héli Music drie jaar later deze nieuwe EP aan een verwarde en aan falen verslaafde wereld. De abstracte en electronisch dooraderde geluidsconstructies doen denken aan Dødheimsgard, Aborym, Zyklon en Diabolicum, maar bij vlagen vreemder en daardoor ver voorbij de heerschappij van Lucifer. Deze volgens excentrieke principes opgebouwde muziek zal sommigen wellicht op de zenuwen werken, mij weet het echter wel op de juiste manier te prikkelen. Bovendien is dit minder erg dan ik nu wellicht laat lijken, aangezien de nummers nog altijd volgens herkenbare structuren zijn opgebouwd.

De Aborym-achtige hellevaart zonder mogelijkheid tot voortijdig uitstappen van "Through Drowsy Daydreams (Where Is That Man That I Heard Of)" laat je geen keus dan gelaten je noodlot te aanvaarden en te genieten van het onnatuurlijk misvormde landschap. Na de robotische pirouette van "23 Hands" en het dark ambient outro "Immortal Portal Mortal" is de integraliserende exercitie nog niet ten einde. Het laatste nummer op deze cd is een power electronics remix door Adon van het eerste nummer, de grens tussen moderne black metal en schrapende industrial noise wordt hier zonder enige aarzeling overschreden. Aldus wordt de cirkel gesloten. De volgende stap is gepland voor 2009, aangezien Hesperus Dimension voornemens is om dan hun eerste album tot stand te brengen. Tot die tijd zullen we ons tevreden moeten stellen met "The Cyclothymic Panopticon", waarlijk een kleinood om te koesteren.
